Off To Disneyland!!! AND some Disney Ideas!

I've got the kids' Disney clothes packed and we will be heading out on our journey tonight!   I am so excited to surprise my kids by showing up at Disneyland tomorrow!    Has anyone ever kept going to Disneyland a secret from their kids until showing up at the magical gates?    It's going to be a blast!  I am so thankful for the gift that Paparazzi Accessories has been in my life for the past 7 months.   Money in the bank, a free trip and money in the bank  - who could ask for more?

No one submitted any Disney related posts and I thought about just reposting some from last time, but I talked to my neighbor about taking over my blog for the week and she agreed.   So from now until Monday, Miranda will be posting some of her favorite ideas from around the web.

I'm leaving with the post that inspired me to make the Mickey and Minnie ears for my kids last time we went!  There are a few other great ideas in here!  ENJOY!!!

I made these mouse ears for my daughter's first trip to Disneyland in September. The ones at the Disney store inspired me...and then once I saw the price I was really inspired to make my own:)

Materials:

black faux fur (mine was more like a felt fur)

headband

cardboard (for the ears)

hot glue gun

bows

lint roller

NOTE: The lint roller is so you can pick up all the pieces of fur hair as you cut and glue your pieces because the faux fur sheds a lot.

1. Start by measuring the outside of your headband and cut two strips of fur that are that are about 1" longer and 1/2" wider on both sides.

2. Glue one of your strips (fur side facing out) to the inside of the headband.

3. Trim the strip to 1/8" all the way around the headband.

4. Glue your other strip to the top of the headband, also with the fur side facing out. Trim the top strip to be even with the strip on the inside of the headband.

5. Now glue the edges of the strips together. I found this was easiest by applying the glue to the outer edge of the headband itself that way no glue seeped out when I pressed the strips together.

Here is what it looks like after it has been glued all the way around.

6. Now to make the ears, cut out four circles of fur in the size you want your ears to be. I used a drinking glass to get perfect circles.

7. Cut out two pieces of lightweight cardboard that are about 1/4" smaller than your fur ear pieces. Glue your cardboard to the center of your fur ear. Make sure the cardboard is glued to the wrong side of your fur. Then cut a small piece of the circle off to create a flat edge. About 1 and 1/2" is enough.

8. Glue your other fur ear piece to the one with cardboard on it. Make sure to glue the wrong sides together so that there is fur on either side of the ear. Leave an opening at the place where the flat edge of your circle is.

Repeat this process to make the other ear.

9. Apply glue to the inner sides of the opening of your ear piece and position it on your headband and hold it firm until the glue has dried.

10. Attach the other ear to the headband the same way. In order to get the ears even on both sides, measure up from the bottom of the headband to the bottom of the ear you already attached and then mark that same measurement on the other side.

Now these can be left "as is" if they are for a boy...but if they are for a girl then it's time to add some fun bows!

I decided to glue one bow in front of each ear instead of the traditional large bow.

My daughter absolutely loves them. They lasted all day at the park and she still wears them around the house now:)

Also, to go with her ears, I was inspired to make her a Minnie Mouse dress and shoes:

Along with some Mickey Mouse cookies to snack on and Mickey Mouse pancakes to have the morning of Disneyland:

My daughter did have two costumes to wear while at Disneyland. She was Minnie Mouse most of the day...but when meeting the princesses...a Cinderella dress was the obvious choice:)

I made this satin flower headband to match her dress...and when we met Cinderella, she told my daughter that she liked it!

When we got back from California...the Disney celebration continued with a photo viewing party with my family. I made these candy dipped Mickey Mouse cookies for the occasion.

We had an amazing time at Disneyland and we can't wait to go back:)

Guess What?

My family won a trip to Disneyland! 

Since September, Paparazzi Accessories (the direct sales $5 jewelry company I joined in August) had a promotion and the top 5 people won a trip to Disneyland!  I was #5!!!!   My family is leaving next week!  I haven't told my kids yet.   It's going to be a huge suprise when we let them in on the surprise.   I'm really excited!  It's a dream come true.  

SO, next week I will be having a ton of fun with my kids at the "Happiest Place on Earth."   About 18 months ago, we took the kids to Disneyland and I did a week of Disney posts.   I think I will do something like that again.   I'll use the same button and same name - Disney Days!

Other news about Paparazzi is that I quit one of my jobs this past month.   It is a bittersweet decision that took me a long time to do.   I loved my job as an aide at a Special Education Pre-school, but I make some much better money selling cute $5 jewelry than I did working there and I needed the time to be a mom and run my business.

Princess Belle T-shirt Dress

Chances are that if you have a little girl, they love princesses. I've looked at the price on princess costumes/dress ups and they are expensive and fall apart easily. Mickey Mouse Handmade Invitation

These bold invitations are a great way to invite your guests to your Mickey Mouse party. Use our printable Mickey Mouse invitation template to create the invitation from black and red cardboard, and then print the Mickey Mouse buttons onto white paper, and glue on onto the red cardboard. Edit the details on the back of the invitation, print onto white paper, then glue onto the back.

Cheesecake Pops

These Cheesecake Pops are perfect for a Mickey Mouse party! They are scrumptious balls of real cheesecake, covered in dark chocolate and served on a lollipop stick or skewer. Serve them at the party, or pop them into a cellophane bag and tie with a red ribbon and give as a party favour.

1. 
   
   
   Buy a cheesecake or make one from scratch. Use any flavour of cheesecake you like, but it is best to use a baked cheesecake, as the no-bake cheesecakes are too soft to keep their shape. Line a tray with baking paper. Scoop spoonfuls of cheesecake onto the tray. If necessary, wet your hands and roll the cheesecake balls to make them round.

   Insert the lollipop sticks (or use trimmed skewers) into the cheesecake balls. Freeze the balls until they are very firm, at least 2 hours.
3. 
   
   
   Melt some dark chocolate buds (saving some buds for the ears!) until completely smooth.

   Remove the cheesecake balls from the freezer. Working quickly, dip a frozen cheesecake ball into the melted chocolate. Place the cheesecake pop upright in a piece of styrofoam or floral foam brick (or a container filled with sugar/rice) to dry. Refrigerate the pops until the chocolate is completely set.

   To make the ears, run a chocolate bud along the side of a hot kettle to slightly melt it, then gently hold it against the cheesecake pop for a few seconds.

   Complete them by tying a red ribbon around the stick. They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Alternative: Instead of cheesecake, you can buy a cake, crumble it into a fine consistency and then mix it with frosting. Blend thoroughly. Mickey Mouse Pop Biscuits - (you call them cookies!)

If baking isn't your thing, try these no-bake Mickey Mouse pop biscuits. Cut a skewer in half, then gently slide it directly through the centre of an Oreo biscuit (through the white fillling in the middle) and stop just before it comes out the other end. If the biscuits come apart, gently press them together or glue together with melted chocolate. (Hint: Pop the Oreos in the microwave on defrost for 10 seconds before you insert the sticks so they slide right in and the biscuit doesn't move). Rub a dark chocolate button on the side of a hot kettle to slightly melt it, and gently insert between the biscuits. Repeat for the other ear. Mix icing sugar with a little warm water and red food colouring, until icing becomes smooth and slightly runny. Coat the bottom half of the biscuit with the red icing. When the icing is dry, add two dots of white icing (I used a tube of white icing) for Mickey's buttons. Store in an airtight container, and refrigerate if the weather is hot! If you want to give them as party favours, pop each one into a cellophane bag, then tie a little ribbon underneath the biscuit. Mickey Mouse Bubble Mixture Label

Small bottles of bubbles make great party favours, and are easy to tie into your party theme simply by adding a new label! For party favours for your Mickey Mouse party, simply print our Mickey Mouse bubble mixture label, cut out, wrap around small bottles of bubble mixture, then glue the ends of the label together. I was lucky enough to find bubble mixture containers that matched the colour scheme of my party, but if you can't, don't worry - the labels still look fantastic on an array of coloured containers! Mickey Mouse Jokes Party Favour

This is an easy party favour for your Mickey Mouse party. Simply print out our Mickey Mouse jokes sheet, cut and place into your Mickey Mouse goodie bag. Mickey Mouse Notebook Cover printable Minnie Mouse notebook cover and stick it to the front. Chocolate Mickey Mouse Confectionery Wrapper

I was finding it hard to find Mickey Mouse trinkets for party favours, so I decided to make a wrapper that I could put around anything, so that it would tie in better to the theme! As it was, I found some small packets of 3 Oreo biscuits (29.4gms) that my daughter thought looked like Mickey Mouse ears! Use our printable Chocolate Mickey Mouse Ears Wrapper to wrap around a small packet of chocolate biscuits, or printable Mickey Mouse Wrapper to wrap around chocolate bars - just trim to suit your needs. Don't worry, I have removed the Chocolate Mickey Ears reference from the template! Cheers! Tammy

Cinderella Shirt and Mickey Shorts

Here is a beauty by Fussy Monkey Business!

I am kind of under-impressed by this shirt:o) I had a great vision and when this vision came to be, I was just like, 'oh, okay.' Anyway, you can tell that it's supposed to be a Cinderella shirt. This was the first time that I had worked with satin....very slippery and kinda stretchy at times.

I really like the "bubble skirt" on the bottom of the shirt.

Here are some views of the under side to show you how everything was sewn together. The lining is actually shorter than the actual bottom of the shirt, so when sewn together, it creates this bubbles effect. You can do this on any pattern you choose.

I had to make sure that I got those white things on the side...not really sure what they are called:o) I am happy with how it turned out though....but like I said, slightly under-whelmed.

I was able to make this shirt for less than $4. Not too shabby:o)
