Be aware that using any kind of item over a carseat that was not sold with the carseat is not considered safe by car seat experts. Car seat covers, for instance, are treated to be fire retardent, and most fabric is not. I had made a stretchy carseat cover a few years ago, and it wasn't until I took it off that I realized that it had shifted into an awkward position and was making the seat straps much, much looser than they should have been.
