With Valentine's Day behind us, we can start thinking about St. Patrick's Day!   Nap Time Journal has a cute little craft with which to decorate your house.  She made a leperchaun hat out of 2x4's!!!  Fun!

Giant Candy Corns

I can't believe that today is Halloween.  I've been so busy this month that I have hardly had time to plan for it.  I love candy corn projects and I don't think I've highlighted very many this year so I will end the last day of October with these giant candy corns from Young and Crafty.  Put them on the list for next year!

Guest Blogger - Crafty Blonde Chick - 2x4 Candy Corn

I have enjoyed starting a blog about my crafting hobby and want to give a huge thank you to Michelle for asking me to guest on her blog!

I am going to be showing you how to make some 2x4 Candy Corn. These are simple to make and make use of scrap pieces of wood. If any of you have a husband that likes to do projects, then you probably have an abundance of scrap wood like I do.

Supplies needed:
2x4 wood
yellow, orange, and white paint
sandpaper
Chop Saw or handsaw
hemp twine or ribbon

Start out by cutting your wood using the chop saw at a 15 degree angle. I cut it once and then flipped it around so I didn't have to adjust the angle again. Make sure to leave a little of the flat edge on top to resemble the real candy corn.

Your candy corn should look like this now:

Next sand the edges and get ready to paint! I use painters tape and do a stripe down the middle so I can paint the top and bottom of each in the same step. Make sure to do the top and bottom and all sides!

When paint is dry you can pull the tape off and have a straight edge to paint the last color in.

Last but not least, when the painting is completed, sand the edges and distress the candy corn. I added some hemp twine around the middle candy corn to add something extra. Halloween or fall ribbon would look darling too.

Put them on a shelf or table and enjoy your new halloween/fall decorations! They really are that simple!

Another great week of link-ups! I can't highlight them all so here are just a few!

Bring on the glitter! Queen of Iwasagonna glammed up some 2x4 with orange glitter to make some rockstar glitter pumpkins!

Why didn't I think of this simple idea? My son will not wear any type of tie if it clips inside his shirt! Love City basically attaches a safety pin to the tie and the shirt! This would totally work with my son (and probably yours)!

I love this idea from seven thirty three - A Creative Blog for the first day of school pictures. So fun!

Just Sew Sassy created a belt of felt flowers for the fall! It's gorgeous! (It would look cute as a headband too!)

Eating My Candy has found another thing you can spray paint - your shirt! I love her technique for spray painting a shirt!

This huge slat wall art would look amazing on a big wall that needs some color and design. I love how The Polka-Dot Umbrella hung it in her house with colored frames on the opposite wall to correspond with these colors! Awesome!

2x4 Stocking Hangers

My stockings are hung from my mantle with a push pin in the wood! (NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!) I love this simple idea for stocking hangers made from 2x4's. They are cute and easy! These ones that look like presents are from Sugar Bee.

The original 2x4 stocking holders came from Crap I've Made. They have a monogrammed letter! I love both ideas!

I would recommend using these only when the stockings are empty! I doubt they are heavy enough to hold filled stockings.

2x4 Reindeer, Sleigh and Present!!!!

Craft Goodies made adorable reindeer and a sleigh using 2x4's!!! Those would look so good on my mantle (and on yours too)!

Guest Blogger - Under My Umbrella - 2x4 Santa

Michelle was kind enough to invite me over to Someday Crafts to share my 2x4 Santa Tutorial. Thanks Michelle! Before we get to that a little about me.

I'm a wife of a dude that lets me sprawl my craft stuff throughout the house. I'm a mom to a teenage girl (if you have one you know what I'm talking about), a cute wannabe teen girl (she is only 8!!) and two boys that have sword fights with my bamboo knitting needles. It's a happy life with lots of crafting! My blog and etsy store all started when my husband started buying me power tools for my birthday and Christmas. I know, exciting right?! (He just bought me an air powered staple/nail gun. Watch out world! Here I come.) He told me to start creating and making stuff. He saw something in me that I didn't. I started creating things and who knew?!

Here are a few of the other projects I have done.

Ok! Enough of that "me" stuff and onto the goods! A 2x4 Santa!

You will need a 2x4 or a 1x3. Either will do. I have done this two different ways. If you want your Santa to look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame from the side then skip this next step :) Cut your 2x4 in half lengthwise. Like this....

Then cut 3 pieces at 3 inches (the body), 2 pieces at 3/4 inch (arms) and 1 piece at 2 1/2 inches (shoes). Next grab your scroll saw OR trace the following pattern on chipboard, cardboard or cereal box.

My material of choice is 1/4 inch MDF so I used my scroll saw. My reindeer pattern is also traced on this piece of wood. Hop over to my blog for the tutorial.

At this point you should have something like this....

Paint your pieces. Let them dry.

Sand the edges. Sand down the middle of the shoes to give the appearance of two shoes instead of one big shoe. A dremel works great for this step. Glue the pieces together. I like to use gorilla glue. Strong as a gorilla :)

Make sure you remember to glue the mustache on Santa and .....you are done!
