St. Patrick's Day Shirt + Silhouette Promotion and Giveaway

I LOVE my Silhouette! I love having the ability to use my own fonts and create my own images, rather than being tied to cartridges and premade designs. I love being able to purchase just one image from the Silhouette Online Store for (usually) less than $1.00 each instead of paying $25-$50 for cartridges when I want just an image or two. And now I have even more of a reason to love it. For the last couple of days I've been playing around with the Silhouette Designer Edition Software and, can I just say, I LOVE having the ability to open SVG files right in the software, trace them, and manipulate them as I see fit. Without this software, using SVG files was quite the task, which involved opening them in another program, tracing them, converting them, and then finally opening them in the Silhouette Studio.

So for this project, I wanted to try out some of the abilities of the Designer Edition. I found a free shamrock SVG file from SVGcuts.com which I was able to easily trace and resize. For this particular shirt, I only used the top and middle layer of the shamrock. I didn't think the ruffly bottom layer was appropriate for my son :) The font that I used is Shelly Print from Lettering Delight. I used the smooth heat transfer material in dark green and yellow for this project.

After creating and cutting the image (making sure to mirror the image before cutting), peel away the negative space and weed out any small parts such as the middle of the O's or A's. After doing so, you're left with the words and images on a sticky backing.

Place it on the shirt and cover it with a cloth. I always use one of my husband's t-shirts rather than a dishcloth or towel. Use your iron on the highest/cotton setting and iron for about a minute. Check the edges and peel the backing away once it's adhered. Add the second layer and repeat with the ironing and checking.

And there you have it. A stylin' shirt for the littles, that will keep them from getting their cute little cheeks pinched!

Now, before we get to the giveaway, we want to let you know about Silhouette's current promotion from now until March 8th, 2013. Use the code "SOMEDAY" to get any of the following discounts:

And, on to what you've all been waiting for! Someday crafts is giving away one Silhouette Portrait cutter to one lucky reader!
