AN UPDATE
Just a quick update about our sweet little preemie, Emmett. I posted about him month ago, but he's come a long way since then. He's about 6 weeks old now, is 4lbs 7oz, and is doing fabulous. We really couldn't ask for him to be doing any better. He's met 2 of the 3 benchmarks required for going home - breathing on his own and holding his own body temperature. He's using a bottle and nursing now, but we're still working up to 100% oral feedings (as opposed to getting anything through the feeding tube). He eats like a champ, he just gets worn out quickly. Once he's able to eat 100% on his own, then he'll be able to come home with us! We're hoping it will only be another 2 weeks, but it all depends on him. He's such a sweet boy though. He just melts my heart! The picture above was a little collage I put together one night while holding him. You can see the dates on the pictures, but they were taken exactly one month apart. He's definitely starting to fill out and get some baby chub. It's obvious when you look at his legs and his cheeks.

ReplyDeleteOh I as so glad you gave us an update on your sweet little miracle. He has gotten so big! How wonderful! He'll be home with you before you know it!! =) Marcy @ day2day SuperMom
ReplyDeleteSeeing your pictures brought back so many memories ! My son was 31 weeks, and started out at 1630 grams ! Or roughly 3 pounds and 5 oz. He was in the NICU for 6 weeks. I remember praying for all the same benchmarks to go home that you mentioned. It felt like every time they gave us " Okay you will be going home on XXX day " the day before he was to go home he would pull a " I don't feel like breathing while I eat today " and set off his monitor, and we would have to wait another 5 days ! But that same little thing, with paper thin skin, is now a very healthy almost 15 year old boy who is taller than me ! Congratulations, and I wish you all the luck in the world ! Amazing things come in the smaller packages !
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update on Emmett! I'm glad that he is doing so well! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
