5 Great ideas!

Another great week of link-ups! I can't highlight them all so here are just a few!

Bring on the glitter! Queen of Iwasagonna glammed up some 2x4 with orange glitter to make some rockstar glitter pumpkins!

Why didn't I think of this simple idea? My son will not wear any type of tie if it clips inside his shirt! Love City basically attaches a safety pin to the tie and the shirt! This would totally work with my son (and probably yours)!

I love this idea from seven thirty three - A Creative Blog for the first day of school pictures. So fun!

Just Sew Sassy created a belt of felt flowers for the fall! It's gorgeous! (It would look cute as a headband too!)

Eating My Candy has found another thing you can spray paint - your shirt! I love her technique for spray painting a shirt!

Guest Blogger - Mailbox Moments - Upcycled Book Box

Upcycled Book Box

Hi! I am Kendra from Mailbox Moments and I am super excited to be sharing a project here at Someday Crafts! Our blog started a few months ago when I moved to Hawaii! You see, my mom and I used to live 5 mins away from each other [in Utah]. We spent lots of time going to lunch, making crafts, talking about blogs, shopping, and checking out bakeries. Now that I live 3,000 miles away, we obviously can't do that anymore so we started a blog where we write letters back and forth sharing a little blog gossip, recipes, diy projects, and bits of life.We hope you will come stop by and say hi!

And now for the craft I want to share with you.....

Supplies You Need:

  • An old hardcover book [check your book shelf, the DI, goodwill, etc.]

  • Exacto Knife

  • Glue [school glue works just great or even glue sticks]

  • A ruler

  • A cute envelope, ribbon, papers clips, etc... that you want to embellish your book with

Step #1: Glue the back cover of the book to the last page.

Step #2: Flip to the first page of the book. Using your ruler, mark the square that you want to be your box. I suggest you make it big enough to fit a note card or envelope, but it is really just up to you!

Step #3: Using the exacto knife, cut along the square that you drew on the first page. You can cut several layers at a time. The first few pages are a little more difficult to cut, because you have to make sure you are cutting straight but once you have cut down a few layers, it is super easy!

Step #4: Continue cutting out the pages of the book to create the depth of your storage box. You can make it as deep or shallow as you want.

Step #5: Once you have cut the storage part as deep as you want, start gluing! It doesn't have to be exact or perfect. Just hold your thumb one on a group of pages [like you are shuffling] and glue each page as you let go slowly.

**It may also work to just use modge podge on the actual sides of the book. I didn't try it, but I think it might be quicker than gluing every page **

Step #7: Embellish! Add an envelope to the front flap, add ribbon, paper clips, whatever you want!

Step #8: Fill your new upcycled keepsake box with letters, notes and cards!

Enjoy! And thanks for reading! Hope to see you at our blog, Mailbox Moments! And feel free to introduce yourself! We love to meet new bloggy friends!

Thanks, Kendra and Mom! I love any projects that involves old books! This one is fabulous! It's fun to see Kendra start this blog with pictures of paradise (Hawaii). I also love Kendra's other blog, Key Lime Digital Design. Visit one or both of her blogs today!

Reusuable Feminine Pads - Crafting For A Cause Link-up AND Recipe Book Extended!

Back to School

If you remember back about a month ago, I announced the Crafting For A Cause for August was to make reusuable feminine pads for girls in third world countries. Many of them are not allowed to go to school during their menstrual cycle because they don't have pads! Totally sad and gross. I'm grateful to live with the circumstances I live with!

Hopefully, some of you thought this was an important enough cause to make some pads and contribute them. The goal was 250 and so far 279 pads have been received! That's awesome, but there is still room for MORE. If you made some pads (or want to make some), link up your post about it at Ladybird Ln. for your chance to win a prize.

If you want to see how to make some of these reusuable feminine pads, click on over to Ladybird Ln. to see more.

Also, do you remember the post about the 50+ Bloggers Recipe Book where all the donations go to help the American Red Cross?

Drum Roll Please.......

Grand Total
$19,250

Are you thinking what I am thinking? It is SO CLOSE to being $20,000! Only 75 more books or ebooks and we would hit $20,000! So our new goal has been made. Paper Coterie (the ones donating all the time and paper for printing the books) has been contacted and they will leave the book up on their site until we hit $20,000! I know we can sell 75 more. Let's hit $20,000! Just 75 more $10.00 donations!
If you were thinking about buying the book, but didn't get around to it, you have one last chance (and I think it will go quickly) to buy the recipe book for charity!

So a GREAT BIG THANK YOU is in order!
THANK YOU!

Guest Blogger - Let's Make This Pretty - Summer Cottage Tape Measurer

Helloooo! I'm Georgina from over at

I started my blog about a month ago... so far so good! Make sure you check it out!

These are just a few of my projects! So... I am Georgina, I am English, I am about to celebrate my first year of marriage on the 4th September and I am absolutely craft mad!

I absolutely love Someday Crafts... I read it every day almost as religously as I watch my British soaps ;).

So today we are making... A SUMMER COTTAGE TAPE MEASURER

You will need:

A tape measurer
Fabric
Bits to decorate it with like buttons pearls gems...
Glue gun!

1. Dust off your old boring tape measurer!

2. Cut a piece of fabric that can double over and cover your tape. Give a few cm each side as well.

3. If yours has a holder strap run it up along the side so that it is upwards of the slidy tape bit. Make a hole and poke it through. This will be part of the chimney!

4. Start sewing!! I recommend doing it without a sewing machine... you need the same kind of stitches i did because at the end you need to poke the measurer through one of the gaps. Make sure you leave the remaining side open. Don't cast off because you'll need to sew it back after. :P Turn it inside out, put the measurer in and then sew up the open side (nice and neatly this time ;) )

5. Now you need to cut out a door! I chose denim from a pair of old jeans. Glue it on with your glue gun! Put a door nob on by sticking on a button. I also did a wee little window. For the roof you need quite a thick material... yet again I cut up a pair of old jeans that were beige. I did a load of messy stitches to make a tiling effect. Trust me... country cottages in England have VERY scruffy tiling! Then i made a chimney to go up the holder. All you need to do now is to squeeze the tape bit through a gap in your stitching. If you want to like me... glue some pearls or flower shaped gems on to make it look like a flower garden. I also glued a button to the metal bit at the end of the tape for extra pretty - ness!!

I'nt that pretty?! Thanks so much for reading my tutorial! I hope you enjoyed it!! Don't forget to hop on over and check out more of my craftiness at

Thanks, Georgina! It's good to have friends in England! And welcome to blogland! The projects you have made so far have been very impressive and cute. I'm sure the rest of the projects you come up with will be just as amazing. Head over to Let's Make This Pretty to welcome Georgina to blogland!
